Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates and Resources
Latest update as of Sunday, March 15, 2020 | 9:15 p.m.
New Effective March 16, Broward College employees will work from home and prepare for remote learning. Students should not come to campus until further notice.
The College has been actively monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19 in Florida and, in particular, Broward County. On Saturday, March 14, Governor Ron DeSantis indicated Florida is at risk for community spread and has activated the Florida National Guard to assist the Florida Department of Health. Given the increasing number of cases in Broward County and results which indicate that some of these cases are not related to international travel or cruises, the College is committed to doing its part to limit the spread of infection.
All classes are suspended from March 14 – March 22, including face-to-face, online, as well as field experience courses (i.e., health science clinicals, teacher education) and law enforcement academies previously excluded. We will continue our efforts to prepare for a transition to remote learning beginning Monday, March 23. At this time, we anticipate delivering summer session courses as originally planned.
Effective Monday, March 16, faculty and staff will transition to work from home with some exceptions. The transition to remote work, remote learning, and limiting the number of people on campuses and centers is part of the College’s efforts to promote social distancing, which health experts have advised is the best way of limiting infection. Employees who are required to be physically present at work will coordinate with their immediate supervisors on plans that ensure social distancing, that is, limiting the number of people in each space and the likelihood of contact. This is part of an effort to do what epidemiologists call flattening the curve of the pandemic. Social distancing slows the spread of the virus by reducing the number of people getting sick at once.
Most student services will be available online or by phone. See Student Resources below.
In addition, all college-related events are canceled until further notice.
